Grandparents Day

On Thursday it was Grandparents Day here at school. Room 2 had a fantastic turn out of great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, uncles, aunties and wider whanau. It was a pleasure to recite our poems about Grandma and Grandad for our special visitors. We also did some artwork for our poetry before heading down to a whole school assembly.
Thank-you to everyone who was able to come along and celebrate this special day with us.

Splish, Splash, Splosh

Last week Room 2 ventured down to the Balclutha swimming pool. At the pool we have been improving our water confidence and learning and practicing lots of different skills.

Mystery seeds

Some time ago Mrs Adam and Miss Marriott brought some mystery seeds to school. As part of our science and writing these past couple of weeks we have been looking closely at these seeds.
First we made a prediction as to what the seeds could be. We recorded this prediction.
Next we planted and watered the seeds. We wrote instructions about what we did.
We then left our seeds to grow. On Wednesday we went back to look at them and see what has or hasn't changed. We then recorded what we could see.

Here are some of the children's observations:
I can see a little green plant.
-Charlotte

I can see a little stalk.
-Ruby

I can see a big stalk.
-Jonty

I can see dirt.
-Vavega

I can see a garden.
-Jakob

I can see a little stalk in my cup.
-Ava

Wheels Day!

On Friday our school had a wheels day. This meant that we could bring anything with wheels to school. Some children chose to bring bikes and scooters while others brought skateboards and roller-skates.
The student council did a great job at setting out little areas and obstacle courses for us to ride our wheels around on. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!!

Play Dough Words

Today Room 2 created a 'Word Wall' in our classroom. On this wall are some of the high frequency words that we need to know for reading and writing. The children studied the words on this wall and then chose one word to create using the play dough. They then had to tell a buddy and one of the teachers what their word was.

Poem of the Week

Every week we learn and practice a new poem. On a Friday we draw a picture, to go with the poem we have been learning, in our poetry books. Our poetry books then go home for the weekend, for you and your families to enjoy.
